Final thoughts after Bonnie Christine’s Immersion Course 2023

It has been almost a year since I finished Bonnie Christine’s Immersion course. I honestly can’t believe it. I had someone ask me the other day whether or not it was worth my time.

This course was a beginning of an adventure. The reality is, the course is only as beneficial as the effort you put into it. You have to go into it with new eyes, a motivation to try and to stay with the modules. I know it is a lifetime course, but the best way to go through it is with Bonnie and with the community.

Every single step of the course, I felt supported. Everyone was at my same stage, the other students were feeling like they were seeing Illustrator through new lenses. Even people that knew the program in and out were also learning. There wasn’t anything Bonnie held back. She lifted the curtain and showed us her process, told her thoughts, and made us feel like she was just a friend leading us along. If you are wondering how this course compares to her Skillshare courses, you can see that post here.

What I accomplished

During the course, I completed one full collection of patterns. In all honesty, I had started patterns 2 months before (to see if I could do it on my own), and went back and revamped those patterns. The transformation was mind blowing. I went from the absolute basics and learned how to add such depth and dimension to patterns in a way that I hadn’t before.

This is what my pattern looked like before Bonnie’s Immersion course:

This was what the same pattern looked like after the course:

You can clearly see such a difference! Sure. I knew how to make a pattern from Bonnie’s Skillshare class, but I learned how to take my artwork to the next level after her course. It was like I had a well rounded, clear view of how to take my artwork and make goals for my future with actionable steps.

My First Collection

I’m sure I will go back and change the color palette for future collections (because I have better idea of my signature style now), but I still love the vibrant colors found in my first collection. It was funny going back and seeing my posts throughout the Flourish membership before Immersion.

There is a clearly a “before” and “after” of my understanding of patterns that can be created. It is nothing but a process. This process must begin somewhere, and it’s up to you and I where we want to start in the journey. We can either start by looking up every Youtube video, every Skillshare class, and reading every blog post with vague and unclear steps. The other option it to jump in, halfway through the journey by taking the Immersion course. So I’m sure you’re wondering, where is your first collection?

Final Thoughts

It all comes down to this… would this course be worth your time, money and effort in the long run? That depends on you, friend.

If you are anything like me, you have been working for years making custom pieces and just wishing your artwork could make more of an impact on the world. Your story doesn’t have to end with a dream or all of those “one day” statements. It can begin right now.

Sure, the work has to still be done after the course, but then you leave with all the knowledge you need without all the mistakes along the way. If you are wondering if it’s worth the investment, you have to look at it as just that… an investment.

What if this investment now, launched you into a career as a surface designer? What if that meant you saw your patterns in a store on the shelf?

The fact is, only you know yourself and your journey. If this is truly one of your “one day” goals, start with this course. This journey doesn’t have to be saved for later, you can begin taking steps toward laying a foundation for your future.

So what are you waiting for? Hop on over there and I am cheering for you!

  2. Kate Frances says:

Wow you’ve achieved amazing things! What a beautiful collection. As a fellow alumni I’m definitely feeling re-inspired🌟

  3. Lauren says:

I want to do the course but the investment of money had me on the fence. I’m pretty sure your post just tipped the scales, though, and that I’ll be doing it! For that reason, I’ll be using your affiliate link. 😊

  4. Leslie says:

What I really want to know is, do we get a certificate showing we took her course ? Seems this would be something we would need when pitching to companies etc to prove we are legit.

    Blessings,
    Leslie
