Creating a freebie that should be sold seems to be completely opposite of what the greatest influencers tell us.
How many times do we download a freebie that we immediately regret giving our email address for? Something we could have Googled ourselves or even created in a few hours, and now we have a continual series of emails that we do not want. I am talking about the PDF that is literally 3 pages long and takes minimal effort to create. Guilty over here of doing this. That is what propels me to flip the mindset of a what a freebie should be.
So, let’s talk about why we should take the time to create a freebie that should be sold.
Creating a freebie that should be sold shows your heart.
After choosing to give away my Bible Journal freebie of 391 pages, I realized quickly that it was far beyond a lead magnet. It was a reflection of my heart of serving others. The way freebies are seen currently is a way to get a quick email address in order to sell to them a product later. In reality, this is simply not the way to create a freebie. People know your intentions based on what you give. This Bible verse always stands true about a cheerful giver.
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. – 1 Corinthians 9:6-8
So ask yourself this question. Are you creating a freebie that is sowing sparingly to bountifully? Creating a freebie is a form of giving in your business. It isn’t there to see what you can get from someone as much as it is there to give out of the overflow of your heart. You are making something that is a reflection of a cheerful giver.
Creating a freebie that should be sold invites others to share about it.
Once you take the time to make something valuable as a freebie, you are inviting others to support you. Do you know what happens after you share a valuable freebie? Though I share about this further here, the main point is that the greater the value you place into your freebie, the easier it is for others to share about it on social media. It almost comes naturally to others because it is completely free without that feeling of someone trying to make a sale. The more people share about it, the more people that will be want to be on your email list to serve.
Creating a freebie that should be sold makes people want to learn more about you.
It’s funny that many people ask what I do for a living because my freebie does not necessarily share what I do. My Bible journal freebie was more so created because of the impact the Bible has on my personal life. That freebie opens more conversations with others and opportunities to speak with others simply because it is so valuable. Not valuable in money or profitability, but valuable in someone’s life overall. You are making something that will make someone else’s life easier in some way. They will ask who you are because the freebie shows that desire to serve your audience. Serving something that took a lot of time will make others inquire about you and your business.
