The Lie That You Need More Time to Be Close to God

The Lie That You Need More Time to Be Close to God

I don’t know if you’ve ever felt this way, but I’ve caught myself believing The Lie That You Need More Time to Be Close to God. I’ve thought that if I could just have one quiet morning…no interruptions, no noise—just me, my Bible, and a warm cup of coffee, then it would finally feel like I’m doing it right!!!

But that’s just not what my days look like right now.

They look like inviting my youngest onto my lap to read, only for him to rip a page of my Bible the second he sits down…leaving me knocking on a neighbor’s door to borrow tape. Or like opening my Bible while the kids are playing, only to hear “mom, watch this!” two seconds later. They look like finally sitting down for a quiet minute… and then remembering the laundry has been sitting in the washer for hours.

And if I’m honest, there have been moments in all of that where I’ve thought… this doesn’t count.

I recently hosted the Faith in the Little Years Summit, and I keep thinking about all the moms who showed up to share.

Just real, everyday moms in the middle of full days, loving their families and trying to stay close to God in it all. And it reminded me how many of us are carrying that same quiet belief… that we just need more time.

More quiet time, more space or more uninterrupted moments to get it right!

But none of them talked about perfect quiet times.

They shared simple, meaningful ways to stay connected with God…reading a few verses while dinner cooks, whispering prayers in the car, and keeping their Bible close to return to throughout the day. They spoke about letting their children see them in the Word, EVEN when it isn’t picture-perfect!

And it felt like I needed to share this gentle reminder… God isn’t waiting for you to finally have a perfect, uninterrupted hour to meet with Him.

He’s already there.

In the kitchen while you’re wiping the same counter again.
On the floor while you’re playing.
In the car line.
In the middle of the interruptions.

Maybe this season isn’t something you need to fix or get through.

Maybe it’s exactly where He wants to meet you!

So if you’ve been feeling like you’re behind, or like your time with God doesn’t ‘count’ because it doesn’t look how you imagined, I just want to say, I see you. And you’re not alone in that! The Lie That You Need More Time to Be Close to God is one so many of us quietly believe. But the truth is, you don’t need more time to be close to Him. You simply need to let Him into what you’re already doing!!

And if you’ve been wanting a simple, gentle way to stay in the Word in this kind of season, I created the Cover to Cover Bible Journal with days like this in mind. Nothing overwhelming, just a place to come back to, little by little, in the middle of real life. Preorders are open right now, and they’re on track to arrive in time for Mother’s Day, which makes it feel like such a sweet gift for yourself or another mama 🤍
